Disney Adventures: Part I (and a question for YOU!)

Now that I'm back in frigid New Jersey (speaking of which, weather.com reported this morning that it felt like negative 4 outside. How, exactly, does one dress for negative 4? ) I've been looking at my photos from my Disney trip and daydreaming.

It was exactly the trip I needed--fun, relaxing, lots of quality time with S, a break from the usual stresses of day to day life (which generally do not include issues such as "how do I get to the castle?")

We got pumped as soon as we landed in Orlando and saw signs for our hotel...

And took pictures of ourselves waiting (not so patiently) for the bus to get moving.....

Our hotel was beautiful. We could see animals from the windows and observation decks, and had some up-close encounters with antelopes and flamingos.

Our first stop was the Magic Kingdom.

The castle was there, looking spiffy as always.

I wanted to eat a lollipop as big as my head, but sadly, they weren't kosher. It's like my dentist and the Disney people conspired!

We took gleeful shots of each other in the park,

tried on many, MANY hats,

and spun in teacups until we (or at least me) almost hurled. (Which, luckily for the little children nearby, did NOT actually happen).

And that was the first day--more photos to come soon!

This trip has made me mull over my system of tackling vacation pictures. The idea of doing a scrapbook layout covering each and every story and photo makes me break out in hives. Instead, I'm planning to do a photobook and then individually scrap photos that inspire me. But, I'd love any help from YOU on finding a cute photobook template!

And while I'm working out my system, I'd love to know: How do YOU scrap vacation photos?

  2. Great pictures! I can't help you since I am terrible in scrapping vacations! So I am also interested to hear the suggestions :)

  3. For big trips like that I like to do a photobook. It's just easier (drag and drop, type out your journaling) and therefore less daunting!

  4. ha! i wish part of my day was worrying about how to get to the castle! What a wonderful problem to have :) i often do a mini book about my travels with the highlights and then just scrap pages as and when i feel like it, no pressure. i've got a things i do, places i go album so they just go in there.

  5. I have a couple of mini albums for vacations, and 2 summers ago we spent 6 weeks in Israel. I brought a little mini album along, so I can scrap as I go. It became clear after a week, that that was not going to cut it. SO, when we came back, I just bought a spiral album--no page protectors, ordered only 4x6 photos, and I just kept in mind that I have to do it fast, bare minimum embellishments, and fit as many photos as I can on the page. That book is still on our coffee table.
I made my parents a photobook, and they love it. I like the textures of the actual photos.

sadly this is no help because my answer is just depends. lol!!!

  7. I do a two page collage with smaller photos (usually no bigger than 3" either side) with just one little square for journaling (if any). My best vacation LO ever I scanned in a postcard and re-sized it and used it as my title which also served as a photo of the destination. I was trying to find it on my blog, it's there somewhere but I couldn't locate it.
But Disney would be tough b/c there are so many great photos that I'm sure you've taken!

  10. I usually make a 8 1/2 x 11 album of the whole trip. I try to stick to a theme or to just one collection of papers.

  12. Oh, you are making me homesick. I lived in Orlando for many years. Many, many visits to Disney. So fun! What I tend to do is a two page layout for each day of the trip, a mini album of the whole trip and the remaining photos go in a travel photo album scrapbook like Stacy shows here: http://stacyjulian.com/blog/?p=3. And I guess if there are other stories, I might do one page layouts to get them down. Good luck on documenting your Orlando adventure. :)

  16. Yay! I'm beyond jealous. We could SOOOO go for a vacation at Disney right now! Maybe we'll get TONS of money back for our taxes... ;-) LOL. Love the photos! Can't wait to see more. :-)

When I make photobooks, I just go to the "Storyboard" option (I think...) at Shutterfly. I make one page for text (they give you layouts to choose from) and then the facing page for photos.

I drag the photos I want on each page (opposite the text), and then push "Done." Then Shutterfly automatically puts the photos into a template for you. You can change it in another screen. There are a few options depending on how many photos are on each page. You can crop the photos and such too in this program.

I'm pretty basic. I keep the photos straight (not the tilted photo layouts), and I always use a white or black background and white or black frames around each photo. It's really easy and fun! :-D

  17. Too funny about the lollipops! They should have a Kosher Candy Store on main street! LOL! I have 3 kids, so a week long vacation involves hundreds of photos! I usually do a 12x12 for a big trip (with a disc of all of the pics inserted in back since I used like 2%) or a mini album for a weekend trip that is special with the top 3 or 4 pics in a LO for our annual family book. Good luck with the snow! LOVE the pics so far!

  18. Can't wait to see more pics!
When I scrap vacation photos I either take the best of what I've got for layouts or make a mini album about the whole trip.
I haven't done one in quite some time, but I am starting to make plans for one I will be doing this fall. I'm headed to Tanzania in August for 2 weeks!

  19. Great photos, and I'm totally jealous of your trip.

I take a lot of vacations, and most of scrapbooking is about my travels. The way I scrap depends on the particular trip. Some trips get a single layout with highlight photos. My bigger vacations get MASSIVE albums. I guess because I love the trips and photos so much, it makes me happy to make giant albums about them. If it didn't make me happy to make the layouts, I would do something much smaller. I'm actually going to blog about how I organize my Egypt vacation pictures in about two weeks (when I finish my Italy album and have time to do the organizing, instead of just think about it).

  20. Love you pictures! And, the diagonal of the Castle is so cool! I usually make a vacation album and then individual layouts of special things that inspire me.

  21. Great photos! Looks like so much fun. As for vacation photos, I usually do a page or two highlighting favorite parts and then I do a mini album to record the whole trip. Actually working on one of those mini albums right now.

  23. Love your pictures Keshet - they are making me want to go back. Glad you had a great time. I used to scrap all the Disney pictures but since we go every year, and I take in excess of 600 photos each time, the task is ridiculously impossible. I've decided to now only scrap a handful and either put the rest into photo sleeve pages, or make a photo book. I also like to make minis so sometimes I'll focus on a particular event and make a little book.

  24. Love your pictures, makes me want to go to Disney World! I love making mini books with vacation photos.

  25. LUCKY! We stayed at the same hotel. Wasn't it incredible?

  26. What fun pics! I love Disney World - hope you had a wonderful trip. As for organizing vacation pics, I usually upload them into iPhoto and then title them as an event. I typically make a minibook using my favorite photos and print them at home and then make a couple of layouts of the best of the best pics:) That's my process :)
