Double Page Design: The New Frontier

It's been a few days, I know. Where did Scrappy Sunday go off to, you may ask? Well, I came home from a family wedding last night so totally pooped that I only had the energy to watch Jane Austen movies on the couch. Which we all know is a sad state of affairs.

But today, I want to talk about something that is near and dear to my heart.

Okay, lie. I want to talk about something that scares the Dickens out of me: two page layouts.

I rarely make them. In fact, while perusing my online gallery for some double pagers to show you, here's the best I could find:

I actually love this one--the contrast is key. It's just a really special layout to me.

Ignore the stinky picture, but since this layout involves pink, brackets, handmade flowers, candy accents, and a donut, I like it.

And an even yuckier picture--sorry about that! This one is my wedding shower.

So, I did some good 'ol fashioned chart making:

Reasons I like double pagers:
1. You have a lot of room to play
2. GREAT for summing up events
3. You can include lots of photos
4. I can challenge myself

Reasons I DON'T like double pagers:
1. They scare me
2. So much space. What to do with it?
3. You have to line up the photos so they look nice, and this isn't always easy.
4. Did I mention they scare me?

If you too are freaked out by double pagers, then this new e-book is for you:

Ella has done it again--a new book all about double pagers, in conjuction with the Write.Click.Scrapbook team (before my time, though!). Which is basically like saying it was written by brother and sister. Or something like that.

Hop over to Ella and check it out! This e-book has already inspired me--I have a double paged layout sitting on my desk right now:) (P.S.--want to know a secret? I really want to write an e-book one day. Have a proposal in mind but need to fix it up and get it out there. One of these days!)

Annnnnnnnnddd......I get to give a FREE COPY to one lucky reader!

To enter please leave a comment below telling me how YOU feel about double pagers!

NOTE: To enter, please be a follower! I hate to do that, but it can be really exhausting trying to catch up with winners otherwise:)

  2. I am too scared of double page...I rarely do them. Usually if I have a lot of photos where none of them is my favorite, then i do a two-page.

  4. Such fab layouts girl - especially love the first one!
I don't know why I don't do many 2-pagers. But I think I need to get my hands on this Ella-book.

  6. This post cracks me up because I feel the same way! Hope this book would help my fear of 2 pagers. I also love that you used the Feb. kit too. That one scared me too for some reason!

  7. I love double page layouts. I very very rarely do a single page. I love to make the theme across the page. Isn't it funny how different things affect us - LOL

  11. I like them . . . but I usually get bored before I'm finished and just want it DONE! Weird? But sometimes I need a double to tell the story!

  12. I also rarely do them but sometimes you just have to- like for an event where a couple/few pictures just won't do.

  15. I love double pagers, but they really do feel like a project... hard to get them just right. Would love to have this book just in time for the 2 pagers I need for my vacation photos! Thanks for the chance!

  19. These are great, you can totally do double pagers! No reason to be scared! I love the contrast in your first layout--what a creative idea! By the way, you are on my list of people to email back--just been a crazy week getting ready for Thanksgiving. You'll hear back from me soon (maybe another book! HA!)

  20. I love double layouts, I hardly ever make one pagers, but that's probably since I scrap our family and always seem to need to get a lot of pics in. I would love this ebook because it's frustrating sometimes to buy scrap magazines and find no double layouts to scraplift!
    p.s. I really like your ones :)

  21. I only made a double pager once and I'm not very pleased with the result. So I hope the E-book will help me, because it can be hard to get an event on one page!

  22. I love doing double pages, but yes, it does take me much longer to do them and wrap my head around them!

  23. In all honesty? I steer clear of them for the same fears you listed. lol... I've always toyed with the idea of doing one, but have no idea on how to make it look cohesive enough. Hope I made sense. lol..

  24. Great pages, and yes I do love that first one! I don't make double-page LOs very often, but when I do I really love how they turn out.

  25. it's fate that i came here today, LOL! i JUST finished one for the LYB sketch challenge. I have to tell you, the only way i can do them is with a sketch. but that's okay b/c ilove love love getting to use 4-6 photos. i find that they are hard to photograph, too!

i mainly use them for birthdays and other events where i have a ton of photos i like.

    have a great weekend!

  26. I soooo love your Sacred & Mundane LO, I think it's beautiful...so you should do more 2 pagers, yours are unique and fabulous.

I don't love doing 2 pagers, I don't think I'm great at the designs for them, so I do them very infrequently...really only when I have a bunch of pics of some event that I want to get done with minimal hassle. Ideas on how to handle the designs in a creative way would be great...if you keep posting yours, I'll just lift them and call it done. :)

  28. Hey Keshet! I left you some love over on my blog. Go check it out when you have a chance!

  29. I love 2pgrs! they are easy to plug and play so to speak. What happens if you have a 1 pg LO you want to insert into the middle of that album from last year? or worse...where it falls would be a left pg, and then next pg is a 2pg LO? You have an ugly blank space-grrr. My prob is more cutting pics to make it a 2 pgr rather than 4 or 6pgs! LOL!

  30. I think you did an amazing job for 2 pagers if they scare you.

  31. I used to only make double page layout! I take so many pics it's hard to narrow it down to just one or two. I'm learning to love the single pages but my heart will always belong to the two pager :)

  32. I have never made a double page layout. I tried, once... It didn't work out :(

  33. I almost always make double pagers. I take too many pictures to not. But recently I've discovered the joy of the one pager to show off special photos or events with only a couple pictures. So much easier to design and not have them look like every other two pager. Very freeing. The book sounds great.
