Stroller Debates

When I was pregnant with Ellie, my major anxiety area (besides the whole becoming a parent thing) was the stroller. There are a LOT of stroller options. And people have VERY strong opinions about them. And I'm very indecisive. So it was quite the recipe for disaster.

Finally, after much soul and wallet searching, we settled on this stroller in blue.

I wasn't blown away by the look of it, but it was the lightest model I saw by far, easy to fold up, and with a great basket, so we've been very happy with it.

But now, I'm in a whole new terrain--the DOUBLE STROLLER. If I thought single strollers were complicated, this is quadrupled. There are big decisions to make, namely side by side or front and back? You have to worry about two kids irritating each other (will they be close enough to pull each other's hair? Kick each other's seats?) which makes me a bit anxious about sibling relationships in general:)

My debates finally came down to these two options:

The City Mini GT Double, or

The City Select.

Here are some pros and cons of each.

City Mini

  • PROs
    • It's the double version of what we have already
    • Each kid has a lot of room
    • Great basket
    • One hand fold
  • CONs
    • This baby is WIDE--will it be hard to navigate?
    • No bassinet option
    • No option to turn into a single

City Select
  • PROs
    • Can be single OR double
    • MUCH cuter
    • Much more narrow to steer
    • Good basket access
    • Compatible with a bassinet
  • CONs
    • No one hand fold
    • Less basket space than a side by side
    • Each seat has less room
Based on our needs, I think I'm going to go for the City Mini double--but first, I want opinions! Which stroller would YOU choose?

  1. When we had our second baby, I purchased the Contours Options LT tandem stroller. I liked that I could change the positioning of the seats, etc. We weren't working with a lot of money though, and it was one of the cheaper double strollers on the market. It had tons of basket space, and I use a car seat adapter successfully with it. Our eldest daughter didn't want to ride in the stroller anymore, so we downsized to the Contours Lite Rider, which is a single orange stroller, and we love it! Now... I've never tried the City Mini double, but I have heard that they are amazing and so lightweight. Our contours was pretty heavy. I had a hard time lifting it up and out of the back of my SUV. We have scheduled to rent one when we visit Disneyworld next year. I'm looking forward to using it :)

  2. We have the City Mini single, no need for a double. But, I have several friends with the double and they LOVE it just as much as their original singles.

  3. City Mini gt for sure over city select-we looked at city select and I just did not think it was a good option for an older child with another seat. However, I do not love the city mini-it's the best umbrella double, but i LOVE LOVE LOVE my bob!!!!!

  4. I *almost* got the City Select double, but it was so expensive and couldn't be used as a jogger so I got something else instead - the Bumbleride Indie Twin, which I found for quite a bit less on Stroller Depot's website. As an aside, I'd highly recommend Stroller Depot. I called them about the stroller and they went and checked their backroom stock for me because they thought they had one more of a color option that wasn't listed as available on the website. They held that option for me over the weekend rather than listing it so I could make up my mind. The City Mini was highly recommended to me, too, but the Bumbleride won out. Obviously I don't know yet how it'll pan out, but so far Isla says she likes it! :)
